Why We Started Comet Capture

By Comet Capture Media

Every company has an origin story. Ours started with a problem that had nothing to do with cameras: distance.

Wesley Dean spent a little over fifteen years running Intermotion Media, building a business around video, nonprofit fundraising campaigns, online courses, a wide mix of storytelling work that never really settled into one lane. For 9 years he was based out of Alexandria, VA, just outside of Washington, D.C.  That variety was part of what made the work great. But a few years after moving to Croatia with his family, something changed. Keeping existing client relationships was easy. Building new ones from thirteen time zones and a very long flight away was not.

The lesson was simple: it is a lot easier to maintain trust than to build it from scratch when you are that far removed. What was needed was someone in the same time zone, someone who could actually drive to a client and be there in person when it mattered.

Great things get built in teams

That is where Aaron came in. He and Wes had worked together for several years already and knew they worked well together. The conversations about doing something official started back in September of 2025. Between then and now, the idea had time to sit, take shape, and mature, the way a seed goes through a winter before it sprouts in spring.

What came out of that process was a shared belief: creative work is better with a real partner, not just a contractor with a camera. Even in an era where AI tools promise to supercharge everything, people still need collaborators who understand their vision and share ideas with them. That is what gives work life, not just efficiency.

Finding the real need: events

Through working together, Wes and Aaron landed on a specific, underserved problem: in-person events generate an enormous amount of valuable material, and almost none of it gets used well. Organizations spend months planning a gathering, bring in world-class speakers, fly in attendees from everywhere, and then let all of that energy evaporate within a few weeks because no one had a plan for what happened to the footage.

That gap, between what an event could become and what usually happens to it, is what Comet Capture exists to close.

Built on a real partnership

We are not a freelancer with a camera and a good rate. We are a team that brings storytelling experience, a communication strategy mindset, and an actual plan to every event we work on. Wes brings the production and workflow experience. Aaron brings a documentary and promotional storytelling background along with a focus on drawing out what makes an organization's story worth telling.

Comet Capture was not built around a service we thought people might want. It was built around a problem we had both seen up close, over and over, at events we had personally worked on.
